The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America,
When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security. Liberty’s Leviathan was conceived from the idea that all are created equal and endowed by their Creator with certain Unalienable rights…that chief among these is…LIBERTY. Yes, Life and Happiness are obviously important, but, without Liberty, happiness is meaningless, and life would potentially be nothing more than an endless slave-state, dependent upon, or unwillingly indentured to, institution or government, for our very survival. If those words make you think “hey, we’re pretty much in that situation right now!”, then…You’ve come upon the reason why we are here.
The citizenry of this country can be divided roughly into two sections…One living under a carefully crafted but incredibly baseless ideology, founded on the belief that private business and personal responsibility and individuality are harmful to government. This ideology brain-washes its followers into believing that government, not Liberty, not We The People, is what makes this country great, and that the people and institutions who are privileged enough to live under such government, owe to the government that which government demands. Government assumes, for its own evil needs, that We The People enjoy this little ‘dance’, and so, we must ‘pay the piper’, in any way, shape, or form the ‘piper’ demands. In the collective mind of government, we should count our blessings…Government knows best.
The other section of our citizenry lives under the ideology based upon what you see (above) in the “Preface”. Yes, there are times when this ideology strays too far to the left, or too far to the right, but, eventually it is yanked (by the people) back to the fundamental belief that remains constant: Without Liberty, man cannot be free to live their life as they see fit. We The People, as acknowledged within the Declaration of Independence and our Constitution, are inherently free beings, entrusted by the Founders with the awesome and honorable responsibility of protecting our rights and freedoms from the boney claws of a jealous government. Though the self-stated intentions of the government we find ourselves with today may sound trustworthy and noble, the watchful citizen must always remember: What the people have, a jealous government wants – be it freedom, Liberty, income or possessions. The income and possessions – those are of monetary value, which an unrestrained government ALWAYS wants and needs. But, in order to truly control an entire nation of citizens, government MUST seek to encroach upon their freedoms and Liberties, inevitably making them dependent upon government for their every need, without the people ever really noticing.
Throughout our history, this nation has engaged in its share of wars & instances of diplomacy, for the cause of Liberty. During the Revolution, we fought for our right to become the nation envisioned by the Founders, built upon Liberty and Independence. During what is commonly known as the “Civil War”, we fought each other, north vs south, in what was basically a test of Liberty for all…Citizens and states included, separate but together. And of course, we’ve engaged in wars on foreign lands, promoting the cause of Liberty for others. And while this is a noble undertaking, and sometimes unavoidable and very necessary for our own survival, it comes with the heavy and sometimes unbearable price of our blood and treasure. And in the end, it serves to remind us, once more, that this country is STILL the home of the brave, where We The People believe that our country, our citizens, and the cause of Liberty, are worth defending.
THIS is why we are here…And THIS is why the cause of Liberty must be defended, in every way, in every degree, in every arena, at every level of government, and every area of society. The citizens of our nation have, for far too long and for varied reasons, shrunk from the responsibility of keeping government in check, and holding accountable their elected officials. It has become all too easy just to assume government will eventually “work itself out”, to the benefit of the people. We get involved in our own lives, work, families and friends, and obviously those are incredibly important things. But, there was a time in our nation’s history, when citizens proudly took it upon themselves to be involved in government, to take advantage of their rights and Liberties, in an effort to shape their towns, cities, states and country. A government of the people, by the people and for the people, cannot function properly without…The People. Liberty’s Leviathan seeks to reverse this trend of complacency, and not only provide information & resources (and a bit of entertainment along the way), but to impress upon our society that an unchecked government is an invitation to the destruction of our country and our lives. Just as many other blogs, websites, organizations, and social & political groups do today, Liberty’s Leviathan seeks to awaken, energize and empower the citizens of this country not only to fulfill their civic responsibilities and hold their government accountable, but to stay informed and stay involved, forever remaining active in the caretaking of our nation, and our system of government at all levels.
